Sunday was my third run since injury, so I headed for the field again to warm-up. I warmed-up and waited for my Garmin to lock on to the satellites. It didn’t. Never mind I thought, I’ll do one of those naked runs, so I set off. After a couple of minutes the lure of running on the streets was too strong and I left the field to head into town.
I glanced down at my watch and saw that my watch had finally found locked on to the GPS satellites so I started my watch and carried on. It felt good running through the streets again and I felt ok, I did wonder how much CV fitness I’ve lost over the inactive weeks but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
My watch beeped as I finished the first mile, and took the opportunity to do a 30 second walk. The second mile went by with no bother and I finished my run where I started. A nice long cool down followed by some stretching and that was me done.
I was pleased with my splits too, but I’m not getting carried away, I’ve got a long way to go.
This is a slight departure from my usual running type posts. I’ve been meaning to start writing the odd post on blogging in general and well, I just haven’t got round to it. You know how it is, life, running and not running due to injury get in the way!
I was on twitter the other day and saw a link to an excellent post with the title, Write with purpose, expect nothing by mjcarty. I was intrigued and read the post, it summed up my thoughts on blogging exactly.
I remember when I first started this blog I never imagined that anyone would read it, I thought it would be a good way of recording my progress, for me to read. And don’t get me wrong, that’s exactly what happened for a few months. Never let anyone tell you otherwise. This quote from the mjcarty post sums it up nicely:
“That’s the beauty of starting a blog. See, while I assume no one reads my work, I can promise you no one will read yours. Not for a while, anyway, especially if you don’t promote it.”
Anyway, getting back to the post by mjcarty, he talks about how starting a blog is a great way to say whatever you want, however you want to say it.
From my own experience I’d say, if you are new to blogging don’t stress about how many views, followers or comments you get, just concentrate on blogging for yourself.

I did my second run today, it was perfect running weather, pouring down with rain but not cold. I did 5 minutes warming-up before walking to the field. Once there, I did another 15 minutes of warming-up exercises before I started running. Continue reading

It has been ages since I last posted, so let me explain.
You might remember that I injured my calf in the Manchester 10K I did in May. Well, what a nightmare its been since then. Although I didn’t go to see a physiotherapist, I did see a sports therapist who thought I’d injured my Soleus muscle. Whatever it was, its been a pain, literally and metaphorically.
The day after the race, I attempted to go to work with the aid of a crutch, I made it as far as the 15 minute walk away and had to get the train home. I couldn’t weight bear on my leg and it was very painful, even touching it was not recommended. So after resting up for a full day I did make it to work the following day, with the aid of a crutch and walking very slowly. I won’t bore you with all the details but that’s pretty much how its been until the last couple of weeks.
10 days ago I started the Kinetic Revolution 30 day challenge, after Julie at A Running Battle recommended it to me. Its a daily series of exercises to help strengthen your legs. Up to now it seems to be working, fingers crossed! Once I’ve finished it I’ll write up a proper post about it.
Going forward, I’m back online properly after buying some new kit yesterday. With the best will in the world blogging on an iPhone isn’t possible, for me anyway.
